Place-making through visual art are methods to distinguish one place from another and at times to reflect a cultural history in a world that is increasingly homogenized.
We are a nation of immigrants. The America’s have endured a turbulent history, and yet the wonders of indigenous art that spans hundreds of years has made a lasting impression in contemporary culture of the America’s; indeed Mexico has historically always been a multicultural country. I am the son of an immigrant myself, Oklahoma was somewhat of a culture shock for my Mom. Merging my past to my present, I began to explore multimedia that referenced my European roots along with my impressions from residing in Oklahoma, a cross-cultural expression through visual art.
This proposal reflects the unique culture of south Oklahoma City. Aspects of my proposal reference uplifting wings of flight mirrored by the wonderful aesthetics of ancient temples of the Aztec and Maya. The artwork orientation is in alignment with the spring and fall equinox. The central focus of the sculpture is designed for photo opportunities for social media.
